Doing Business in Brazil Legal Symposium

Since the first edition of the Doing Business in Brazil Legal Symposium in 2024, Ana Sofia has acted as organizer and driving force behind the consolidation of the event in the international legal landscape. Her leadership was crucial in structuring a space for dialogue between Brazilian authorities, academics, and prominent professionals in Washington, DC, promoting a qualified debate on topics such as infrastructure, tax reform, arbitration, regulation, and corporate integrity . The program of the first symposium, held at Georgetown University Law Center , featured the participation of prominent figures such as the Brazilian ambassador to Washington, Maria Luiza Viotti , and the Minister of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), Ricardo Villas-Bôas Cuêva, as well as representatives from institutions such as the World Bank, the IDB, and the Organization of American States (OAS).

With the success of the inaugural edition, the symposium has established itself as an essential forum for analyzing the challenges and opportunities of the business environment in Brazil from an international perspective . Leading the organization, alongside Professor Don De Amicis , president of the Center on Transnational Business and the Law (CTBL) , Ana Sofia is expanding the event's reach, which in 2025 will take place over three consecutive days, broadening the scope of discussions to include contemporary topics such as the regulation of artificial intelligence, regulatory litigation, the implementation of tax reform, the constitutionality of arbitration, and challenges related to public security and intellectual property .

The diversity of institutional partners and sponsors over these two years—including the Wilson Center, Meta, Grupo Abril, Google, Steptoe & Johnson LLP, JBS, CNT, as well as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank —reinforces the prestige of the symposium, which is already part of the annual legal calendar of Washington, DC , with editions scheduled to occur annually. North-Northeast Association of Economic Law (ANNDE)

Since its founding in 2023, the North-Northeast Association of Economic Law (ANNDE) has established itself as one of the main centers for promoting the study and practice of Economic Law in Brazil. The organization was created with the mission of democratizing the technical debate on regulation and competition , promoting regional inclusion and valuing the talents of the North and Northeast regions of the country.

Since the 1st North-Northeast Seminar on Economic Law , held in 2023 at the historic Faculty of Law of Recife—which brought together more than 300 participants and included representatives from the Judiciary, academia, and the legal profession—ANNDE has promoted a series of initiatives aimed at training and scientific dissemination. The seminar's program included topics such as infrastructure, regulation, public-private partnerships, and arbitration , symbolizing the beginning of a collective movement for a more plural and decentralized Economic Law. In the second edition of the seminar, held in October 2025 at the Bahia Faculty of Law, the range of topics was even more stimulating, featuring the participation of judges from the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region, as well as directors of regulatory agencies. What is most interesting is that, in addition to its academic rigor, the event strictly adheres to the commitment for which ANNDE was conceived in the first place – that is, the composition of the panels, besides safeguarding gender representation, also ensures that at least 65% of its members were born or completed part of their higher education in states in the northern and northeastern regions of the country.

More than just an event space, ANNDE has established itself as a platform for technical and academic development , based on different areas of activity, including scientific publications, thematic study committees, postgraduate courses, and mentoring and regional recruitment projects . In 2025, the association launched its first anthology, *Economic Law in the North-Northeast Axis *, and established institutional agreements with CADE (Administrative Council for Economic Defense) and leading universities , expanding its impact network. Under the leadership of its president and co-founder, Ana Sofia Monteiro Signorelli , ANNDE has become a true laboratory of ideas and talents , committed to transforming the field of Economic Law into a more diverse, technical, and representative space.
